43-45 Pau Chung Street 炮仗街43-45號

This
building has no special name. It is called and located at 43-45 Pau
Chung Street, Tokwawan, Kowloon, Hong Kong (香港九龍土瓜灣炮仗街43-45號). It is a
building of 6 or 7 storeys, as the top floor should be illegal and an
unauthorized construction work (from some information in the internet,
it is in fact a building of five storeys, there are totally 15
units). My attention is drawn by this building because of the long
narrow staircase in the first photo below. It is a slopy staircase from
the ground floor to third floor, of width about 2.5 feet.

It
was built in 1955, this means it has a history of 58 years in 2013.
Because of regular renovation, this building still looks very good in
appearance. At least, it does not give me an impression that there is a
risk of collapse. I am interested to have a closer look of this
construction.

The staircase is not dirty at all. It is not rubbishy and wet.

It
is anyway a record of 58 years, the yellow layer on the surface of
staircase has been disappearing gradually. This building of course has
no escalator.

Mailboxes are hung on the wall on the right.

The building is old, its outer surface is still firmly attached.

To other people, this 43 - 45 Pau Chung Street in Tokwawan is only an old building without escalator, it has nothing special.

It
is different. It is very different from the new and younger buidings,
and those commercial glass curtain wall buildings around us. Because of
the long narrow staircase, it reveals to me that it is a building of
long history. It is for fun and needed to take make a record, for fear
that this building will be demolished suddenly.
