Hong Kong Museum of Coastal Defence 香港海防博物館

Hong Kong Museum of Coastal Defence is located at Shau Kei Wan
of Hong Kong Island. It was also an important battlefield during the
Battle for Hong Kong in 1941. Today it has been revitalized to preserve
and present the 600-year history of coastal defence.

It
is only 15 minutes by walk from MTR Shaukeiwan Station Exit B2. It is a
very nice half-day program to learn more about the past and coastal
defence of Hong Kong.
Outlook
The
Museum is composed of three parts, namely the reception, the redoubt
and the historical trail. But our visit should be concentrated on the
last two.
This Redoubt is the core structure of the Museum. Permenant exhibition galleries can be found inside the main hall.

It was built in 1887. This is the redoubt entrance.

The second level is the best location to overlook buildings of Shaukeiwan and Saiwanho of East Hong Kong Island.

East Kowloon - Yau Tong and Lei Yu Mun

Hang Fa Chuen - a large private housing estate at East Hong Kong Island.

Shaukeiwan Typhoon Shelter is adjacent to the museum.

Guided
tour is available daily (in Cantonese only). In my opinion, it takes at
least three hours for the visit of whole Hong Kong Museum of Coastal
Defence. It is a nice, interesting and pleasurable experience to learn
more about the happenings in the past.
Entrance fee is HK$10.
