Shui Yuet Kung Mongkok 旺角水月宮－Hong Kong Relics 香港遺風

Shui Yuet Kung Mongkok (旺角水月宮), a Kwum Yum Temple (觀音廟), was originally located at the junction of Argyle Street and Waterloo Road in Kowloon. It was built in 1884 and a large scale renovation was carried out in 1908. Because of railway expansion by the government, Shui Yuet Kung was relocated to the present location at Shan Tung Street in 1926. The present one was re-opened in 1927 and is now managed by Tung Wah Hospital Group.

The outer wall of Shui Yuet Kung should have been re-designed and re-constructed. In the past, it was a short white wall.

The wall and rooftop are kept in very good condition and have not been damaged.

Rooftops of the outer wall are in two levels. This is quite peculiar to Mongkok Shui Yuet Kung.

Chinese characters of Shui Yuet Kung are extruded from the rock.

While the Chinese characters are engraved on the rock.

The couplet is engraved on the rock on both sides of the entrance. The red, green and yellow colours are quite distinctive.

This is a reminder to followers that no incense or others should be placed / inserted onto the gate.

This temple is different from other temples, in the sense that it is sandwiched between two buildings of about forty storeys, they are CUHK - TWG Community College.
