Tokwawan (土瓜灣) is an area in the eastern part of Kowloon peninsula. It is mainly a mixture of residential area and light industry factory buildings. Old buildings in Tokwawan are not high, they are not more than 20 storeys and mostly of about 10 storeys. Old buildings can also easily found in Tokwawan. Because of urban re-development, old buildings will be demolished gradually. In order to retain a memory of old Tokwawan, some photos are taken mainly along Kowloon City Road (九龍城道) and Ma Tau Kok Road (馬頭角道).

New buildings of more than 40 storeys are very common now.

These are the super-baby blocks.

Some buidings / units have been vacant. These buildings are waiting for demolition.

This is the typical design of 50 years before.

In Tokwawan, there is no large scale shopping mall. What it has is hawkers and shops of local style, selling grocery and food for daily use. The citizens are not the groups of high income in Hong Kong. Though it is located in urban area, it is not accessible by MTR. But now (in 2013) MTR is under construction. There must be a big and abrupt change in Tokwawan in view of height, outlook and colour of building. If you do not visit Tokwawan in person now, you have to see pictures of old buildings in book or internet in future.
