Ma Shi Chau

Ma Shi Chau (馬屎洲),
located in Tolo Harbour in the northeast New Territories, is an ideal
location to study strata, rock properties, sedimentation features and
different geological compositions. Ma Shi Chau was declared a protected
Special Area in 1999. Together with the tombolos, there are also rocks
of different colours and shapes. It is definitely a nice half day trip
to Ma Shi Chau.

Ma Shi Chau Special Area is next to Sam Mun Tsai.

The hike from 1 to 9 in the above, of about 3 km in distance, takes about 2 hours. But if you take photos, 3 hours is needed.

This photo is taken at point 1, before the tombolo.

This tombolo is for sure one of the main attractions of Ma Shi Chau Special Area.

There are quite a lot of local tours visiting Ma Shi Chau during holidays.

Pat Sin Leng is at the far end.

Weather is not good, the trail is muddy.

The boats are for hire.

It is a very interesting experience to walk along the route at the lower part of the island.

It is the dam of Plover Cove.

There are rocks of different shape and appearance. It is an adventure indeed.

It takes about 20 minutes by minibus 20K at the Tai Po MTR Station for Sam Mun Tsai.
