Tai Kiu Tsuen
(大橋村) is a village in Yuen Long Town Centre (元朗市中心), it is one of the
Eighteen Villages in Yuen Long. Tai Kiu Tsuen is bounded by Shan Pui
River (山貝河) in the west, Yuen Long On Lok Road (元朗安樂路) and Long Ping
Station (朗屏站) in the north, Tai Kiu Road (大橋路) in the east, and Yuen
Long On Ning Road (元朗安寧路) in the south. It occupies an area of about 2
hectares and has a history of several hundred years. The origin of the
name "Tai Kiu Tsuen" was not known. Most of the dwellers have a surname
of "Chan".

The plants growing on root-top is an indication of the long history.

This one is relatively new.
Totally
there are about 118 houses in Tai Kiu Tsuen. All houses are not
equipped with toilet. But a public toilet is not too far away from the
main entrance.

It was constructed in 1962.

1961 and 1968
They are just next to Long Ping Station.

This should be the oldest, 1939.

Some old broken houses are vacant.

Alleys are large enough and the village is quite clean generally.

In
August 2013, Tai Kiu Tsuen still exists in Yuen Long.  Plan of
re-development at the site of Tai Kiu Tsuen is ready for a long time.
But the time of re-development has not yet been confirmed. Tenants /
Dwellers in Tai Kiu Tsuen have been waiting for a long time, expecting
either monetary compensation or relocation to another piece of land in
Yuen Long.

Frankly speaking, Tai Kiu Tsuen is kept in very good
condition generally. It is time for people of all ages to retrospect or
learn more about the construction of old village in Hong Kong, if you
are interested. I am afraid it will be re-developed within a period of
five years. Please take your time to visit this live village museum
before it suddenly disappears in the world.
